I saw Cujo is on Netflix, so I decided to watch it. Five year old me loved it, but then I read the book a little later, and realised the movie was pretty bad, comparatively. But I'm watching it now just out of nostalgia, if nothing else.

I'm a big fan of the horror genre, and always have been. I was raised on a weird mix of Disney and slasher films. but the husband hates horror, so I haven't really been keeping up with it for about 10 years. But I've been watching a lot of horror LPs lately, and it's making me really start to miss scary stuff.

So watching Cujo, I expected to get like, this huge wave of nostalgia. Instead, my first thought was the realisation that what Peter Benchley did for sharks, Stephen King did for bats. I just spent the first ten minutes wondering how badly bat populations suffered after this movie.

But at the same time, I really like natural horror. Ghosts and psychopaths are great too, but there's just something especially scary about real things. The big friendly dog that starts ripping everybody's throats out? That's scary. The pleasant tourist beach that gets besieged by a massive, man-eating shark? That's terrifying! And I think that's why the found footage format really took off like it did. Ghosts and haunted houses give a certain kind of thrill, but even when you suspend your disbelief, it only goes so far. It's not quite the same as something you know is real. But the found footage movies, especially those early ones, turned ghosts and haunted houses into something real. Blair Witch didn't do a whole lot for me, except for make me a bit seasick, but I remember nearly pissing myself over the St Francisville Experiment. And I miss that. Because I don't get to see a lot of horror films, and when I do, it's usually just on my iPad or in my well-lit office while I'm working. I haven't gone to see a proper horror movie in cinema in years.

I just feel so out of the loop now. When I look at Netflix, all I find are tongue-in-cheek B-movies. I don't know what's out that's genuinely scary. I need to fix this.

I loved Cujo, Milesy. I am a really big King fan. :-) If you have a playstation vita you can rent or own movies for a fair price. I haven't been to a horror movie in an actual cinema... that would the last of the Saw movies. :-)

I use to love playing horror games more than watch movies! But I've become too much of a wuss nowadays to handle it. Plus the last game I played in High School messed me up for years. What's so funny though is that by watching Markiplier, I was able to get over my fear of the dark! I was too afraid to sleep in the dark from the age 17 all the way to 24! Hah! I don't know WHY I decided to start watching the guy, but his reactions made me laugh so much and I can have the lights of now when I sleep. haha.

I haven't! I've only seen Markiplier play the first one. I know it's a series I would love to try though, I'm just too much of a wuss! Plus, years back I use to have a roommate, so if I watched or played horror, I had someone to hold!

They aren't too scary, once you get used to them and the mechanics hehe.
The storylines in them are amazing, and quite deep. They are on the psn network now, ported from the ps2

That's actually how I feel about the Resident Evil series! I remember playing part 2 when I was in 6th grade, and it terrified me! Now I just enjoy the franchise casually. I still get spooked though. I tried getting into RE 6 but just couldn't.

I can't figure out how the hell to heal myself in RE 6 XDDD
2 I haven't gotten far in at all, because of the controls, I keep running into the zombies and dying, instead of going into the direction I want.

That sucks! I have yet to try Terraria. I love Minecraft though! I don't always play it that often. It's like Skyrim-- I have my moments where suddenly I'm obsessed and then I'm not.

I use to play it on the PC a lot too! Maybe we can venture off someday and just.... build stuff? And mine for hours for just ONE diamond that happened to fall into a pit of lava. Yay.

Awww I really liked the movie haha, even though I've read the book. I think I like a lot of the movies that came out of Stephen King books. They were all so messed up, and none really had a happy ending. Even though the books obviously cover a lot more, I find the movies did pretty good at staying true to the source material.

I feel the same thing about creepy real things like that, and it is a possibility of it happening. I haven't seen St. Francisville Experiment.
Have you seen the Sinister movies? I liked those, to me they were more unique.
Nothing really genuinely scares me though, in terms of movies, but I do like Japanese horror, b/c it leaves things up to you, and gets into your head more.

Check it out. I really liked it, and I think other people did too. It really stood out to me. Yeah it's got the jump scares here and there, but I found the angle and story more unique.

I love Japan.
A lot of the American remakes of their horror really don't get it at all. They just put more gore in it, and strip the story to fit American culture, rather than keeping it as it was to Japanese culture. It's so much creepier in the original form, and I like how open ended it is and that you have to think about it.

There is some gore in it, but it's say it's more disturbing imagery.
Not sure if it's on Netflix or not haha and if it's on mine, that doesn't mean it's on yours.

I used to love the gore when I was younger, and would have regular SAW marathons. Now that I'm older I'm cringing. Mostly at broken bones, for some reason, broken/breaking bones in movies really disturb me. Otherwise, it can be a blood fest and I'm fine.

Haha you mean over the top like Kill Bill? With everyone being a fountain of blood?? That gore really doesn't bug me, it's the really realistic gore that does.
That's why I haven't watched The Revenant. I'd probably end up getting sick and having to turn it off, or feeling like I would pass out.
